My last day
Time flies.
My internships are over.
My dad drove me to the bakery. I stayed up late yesterday packaging the gifts and doing my English homework.
I got there at 7:15. I was a little pressed for time because I wanted to give them the gifts before 7:30—before work started. It’s not a desk job, so I couldn’t just hand them out whenever I wanted. Since we’re all standing and moving around, I needed to do it now.
I was looking for Melanie. I saw her, but then I lost her. Then, Titi showed up. She was in the kitchen area, so I went there (with my hairnet on) and told her: "Titi, le traje un regalo. Se lo quiero dar ahora." She was like, "De una, ahorita." She hugged me. We went to the lockers area, and I gave her the gifts.
Then, I spotted Melanie—who, turns out, was sleeping hidden in a corner. That’s why I didn’t see her, haha. She stood up, and I said, "I got one for you, too." They were glowing, and I could tell they never expected it. 🌟
Of course, I took pictures with them. 📸.Then, Jenny arrived, and I handed her present to her. She was surprised, and I took a picture with her, too.
Only two people were left: Ms. Juli and Katherine. By 7:30, Ms. Juli was already in the production area when I walked up, gift in hand, and said, "I brought you something." She asked, "For who?" I replied, "For you!" She thanked me, and then I clocked in. She’s nice but serious and very focused when it comes to work.
By the way, at the start of the day, three girls arrived! Three new interns! Three. That’s insane! 💥 After spending two months alone, they show up the day I’m leaving! I liked being the only one—no competition, no need to compare myself to others. 😏
First, there’s a young woman in her twenties. She’s extroverted (the complete opposite of me). Then, there’s a girl my age. And finally, there’s a young girl who seems shy (she looked like the youngest of them). I only met two, and both came from La Escuela de los Chefs, a well-known and respected culinary school in my city.
I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned this, but I love that this bakery opens its doors to people who want to learn. 💕
The first young woman was assigned to Titi and Melanie, who are now at the cake station. They swapped with Jenny and Laura.
The youngest one took over my old station—the one I’d worked at for so long—and the girl my age was assigned to the chocolate section.
I did my best to explain everything—how things work here, where to find stuff, and little tricks I’d picked up. I felt like a senior, haha. She was my glue Easter eggs partner. While we were working, I watched and learned how to make pistachio praline from Jesús. He joked, "Aha, ya no nos extrañas afuera!" And I was like, "De hecho, sí"
Another big moment today: The owner of this famous bakery (who usually comes in—she’s also a pastry chef) introduced herself. She walked into the chocolate room and told us, "If you have an idea, share it. We always want to improve and be a great bakery." I nodded and said, "Okay, that’s good, thanks." But inside, I was like, "I think she needed more interns to introduce herself to, haha, because I’m leaving today, Chef." I really admire her, though. She’s so inspiring.
At 12:10 p.m., I clocked out and said my goodbyes. Titi told me, "Thank you," and I swung by the office, but Ms. Katherine was not there- she’ll be back this Thursday.
That’s all!
Thank you for joining me on what’s been the best two months of my life! I tried to share and write most of it, though of course some things are confidential 🤐😄. And remember: If you want to do something or be better in your field, look for opportunities—they won’t just come to you! 💖💪
PS#1: Every day I made sure to take one solo photo, but today I forgot. Still, I ended up with something even better - pictures with people who've truly earned my respect.
P.S#2. Besides the bakery, today was also my final exam covering units 7 and 8 in class. And today was the verb quiz too.
The verb quiz came first—I got 1.5/1.5.
For the Unit 7 quiz, I scored 18.5/20. I was expecting a 19, but I didn’t read one tricky question carefully enough and fell right into the trap.
