Carnival Part I

There’s no better way to start a new month than with a four-day holiday.

Carnival is a festival that takes place in many Roman Catholic countries before Lent. It's a time of celebration and partying, with parades, dancing, and music. It's the last festivity before Lent, a 40-day period of fasting and abstaining from meat. Entonces, el Carnaval es la fiesta antes de la Santidad.

We set off on our journey to Chanduy around 9 a.m. But well, it wasn’t exactly a smooth departure—our car had a problem, so we had to stop at a repair shop for about an hour. I was hangry, the sun was intense, and we were stuck inside the car. Until finally, I said: "I need to get out of here." I went to buy empanadas (I thought they were cheese, but they turned out to be chicken—still delicious) and chocolate milk for my sister and me. My mom had encebollado.

Later, we finally got back on the road. My dad also had encebollado, and the rest of the trip was smooth and quiet—except for the sun, which I hated. We arrived around 11 a.m. and took out everything we had brought for the house: new sheets, brooms, chairs, pots, and food.

We visited my grandma, uncles, and aunts, and they told us that the river—usually dry—had started flowing again because of the recent rains.

My aunt, who was on her way to Ballenita, stopped by with my grandma. For lunch, we had tuna salad, and they had bought seco de chivo from La Bendición de Dios restaurant.

Later, we went to the beach. I didn’t go in the water because it was too sunny and because there was a spring tide, which causes the tides to be higher than usual.

We headed back home around 5 p.m. and spent the rest of the evening relaxing—sleeping, listening to podcasts, and just unwinding.

I was sleeping peacefully in my bed when I suddenly woke up, startled by the sound coming from the roof. It was 4 a.m., and it was pouring. Since we have zinc sheets, the noise was even worse. It was deafening! Here are a few seconds of that stressful sound.

It lasted for about half an hour. Then, i fell asleep again.

Pdta: Mi papá está obesionado con que el río volvió a correr, asi que mañana vamos a irlo a ver.
